Good picture in contrasts. I prefer Lilly's yellow fire hydrant. So Ronnie, do they take the plate off when there is a fire and proceed from there?

@Marion: : (from Ronnie) Yes, they lift that plate and fix the hose to some valve down inside. Always the danger someone might have parked on it or otherwise obstructed it . . although firefighters tend to shove anything like that aside! Thanks for the Comment, Marion.
The right is more practical, but the left is more interesting.

Our hydrants are also buried in the ground. It's an endangered species.

I think some of the larger cities may have a few hydrants underground, but you couldn't have a scene like the one in the Godfather with and underground hydrant.

interesting! a fire hydrant underground! i actually makes a lot of sense probably. but it looks so bleak without the flowers :)
