Denise from Duncannon, United StatesTook me a while to catch the drift of your conversation. :) 19 Jun 2009 12:35pm dobbino from Cape Town, South AfricaYou highlight an interesting fact about pedestrian rules - over here it's very much a free-for-all - not structured like elsewhere (even though the rules differ widely). However, be that as it may, what I'd like to know is how these ideas come about. Do you (Ok - or Lilly!) see a scene, take the shot, get the idea, and then go out to find the complementary photo? Or do you perhaps get the idea and then go out to find the locations for the photos? Or what? 19 Jun 2009 1:08pm @dobbino: : (from Ronnie) Thanks, Ron. We did discuss ‘steps images’ and each snapped a few similar shots at agreed settings knowing something would fit. The merged image was to be all about ‘lines’ : the geometry of the steps themselves, the perspective and some crossing arrangement to link the two sides together visually against a background. The contrast was that my part was full of people - London being non-stop what it is ! António Pires from Lisbon, PortugalIt's an old photo for sure. At present, people's preferences are rather on the right side. 19 Jun 2009 2:48pm Ken from United StatesAnother wonderful observation by two lovely people. 19 Jun 2009 2:57pm Barbara from Florida, United StatesNow I'm wondering if it would be easier to be left handed to live there. You have raised an interesting thought while I have only considered that in the UK they drive on the wrong, oops! I mean left side of the road. 19 Jun 2009 3:04pm tyan from Singapore, Singaporehoho,we have a lot to learn from you.We have the keep left rule but NOBODY keeps to it.Sigh.its really frustrating cos you get more bumps, stares and stuff. 19 Jun 2009 4:48pm Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesYour coordination on these images, as you describe in your answer above, is extraordinary. I find this shot funny because I would walk right, and I wonder if that is a function of being used to driving right. 19 Jun 2009 5:47pm Craig from Vacaville, California, United StatesMy experience is that people tend to walk on the side where their driving rules dictate. A fine blend for sure! :0) 19 Jun 2009 6:22pm Earnest from Oklahoma, United StatesAs a creature of habit, this would get me into big trouble.... 19 Jun 2009 7:24pm jeff (aka dogilicious) from Millerstown, PA, United StatesI thought this was a hemisphericity thing. Like water going down the drain clockwise and counterclockwise! ;) 19 Jun 2009 7:49pm Chris from South Jersey, United Stateswonderfully blended images - and something to think about - I don't really remember seeing everyone all on one side (and it drives me nuts!!).... 19 Jun 2009 8:13pm MadScientist from Düsseldorf, GermanyGreat harmony in motion here, I wonder why nobody wants to use this lovely concrete staircase, though. 19 Jun 2009 9:25pm Steven from Chicagoland, United StatesI was thinking what Earnest said. Particularly with everyone goig up on the left. :-) 19 Jun 2009 9:34pm jamesy from christchurch, New Zealandhehehe Firstly I love the photo and the narrative they are great as always. and secondly in Nz its a free for all you walk where ever you like this includes going up and down stairs. 19 Jun 2009 9:43pm @k@: : hee hee . . I trust there won't be nightmares of endless stairways . . ordinaryimages from Kentucky Bluegrass, United StatesBeing left handed, I would have gone up the down stairway. best...jerry 20 Jun 2009 12:06am Lorna from Regina, CanadaI hate when people are on the wrong side. Great blending again. I had forgotten that this was two images. 20 Jun 2009 12:49am Paco Díaz from Palma de Mallorca, SpainAt least there is a code, here people and bicycles go in an entropic movement :) 20 Jun 2009 5:04am djedfre from schaumburg, United Statessomehow Lilly's side seems so much less complicated! 20 Jun 2009 7:12am Daryl Johnson from Farnham, United KingdomGood work with the bridge across the top! 20 Jun 2009 7:49am bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaThis makes me smile. I often one about people and these sense of direction when it comes to the rules of the pedestrian...I have concluded there aren't any :) 20 Jun 2009 1:09pm Steve Rice from Olympia, United StatesI'm sure people walk all over the sidewalk. Those radicals! 20 Jun 2009 6:35pm Ilan from IsraelWhat comes up, must come down. :) 20 Jun 2009 6:43pm John Maslowski from Dallas, PA, United StatesExcellent shot, the lines and patterns in this image are mesmerizing. Fascinating image, like the angle and the way you filled the frame. 20 Jun 2009 7:40pm Laurent from Lyon, Franceamazing how those two pictures just feet together. Good illustration also on how english people are well educated. The woman must be french ;o) 20 Jun 2009 8:17pm Fliss from Melbourne Beach, United StatesI sometimes still have travel here in the US about what side I am 'meant' to walk on... 20 Jun 2009 11:24pm Laura from Birmingham, United Kingdomwonderful shot, great tones in the picture. The brightly coloured people against the background works really well. 21 Jun 2009 8:16am Richard_Irwin from Belper, United KingdomAnother remarkable double image. You just want to step into the photo and break the rules by going up the right hand steps 21 Jun 2009 9:28am yiannis krikis from thessaloniki, Greeceexcelent work and very carrefully choise of lighting 21 Jun 2009 9:55am Anita from West Nottingham, United StatesGreat job aligning all the lines, buildings, rails, etc in these two images. I can't imagine how you do it. Of course people would walk on the left, just as we in the USA walk on the right. 22 Jun 2009 11:11am akarui from Kagoshima, JapanBrillant composition with the alignment of the horizontal walking paths. Not many people using the left stairs :) 25 Jun 2009 12:02am |
