CElliottUK from Reading, United KingdomSo that's what I've been doing wrong all these years. When I notice that my car speeds up or slows down unexpectedly, I always thought that it was a change in local gravity conditions caused by gravity waves caused by collapsing black holes. If only I had had a sign with "Hill" on it to take away that confusion! 14 Feb 2011 6:16am @CElliottUK: Ha ha!! I took a few versions of this photo, and the first didn't have that sign, but then I saw the "hill" sign and realized it needed to be included! Thank you for the laugh (Lilly) jpla from St Barthélémy d, FrancePas facile la conduite sur ces routes ! Je te souhaite une bonne journée 14 Feb 2011 8:11am Anne from a little red dot, SingaporeGood thought...watch out and drive safely! Nice photos and composition. 14 Feb 2011 10:11am El pare from Prepirineu, AndorraThe right one can be on a section of variable speed... Depending on time, on traffic intensity, ... the signal can be put up or not. Well seen. 14 Feb 2011 10:38am @El pare: What a wonderful idea - when that becomes widespread, they should call it the "El pare indicator' !! (Ronnie) Adela Fonts from Barcelona, SpainA smart and funny dialogue! Everywhere d'Europe is the same ... The perfect image and self explanatory. Altogether a delight! A hug Ronnie! Adela 14 Feb 2011 10:47am @kitty: ha ha . . yes, that's what I was asking - it must be around the corner, thus the warning ! (Ronnie) tataray from france, FranceRespect des obligations avec la neige !.. )) 14 Feb 2011 1:06pm M@ndy from London, United KingdomWeight limit - oh dear (& thanks for ur birthday wishes) 14 Feb 2011 1:27pm Rick from Toronto, CanadaI bet that poor sign was driven over, 30 times! Thanks for the chuckles. 14 Feb 2011 1:57pm Barbara from Florida, United StatesThey tell you to keep your eyes on the road but it is so cluttered with signs, at least Ronnie's version makes that possible. Maybe people see them better that way. 14 Feb 2011 2:03pm @Barbara: Thank you, Barbara. As Marleen says, below, finding stuff for this site sure does make us re-evaluate everyday things ! (Ronnie) Marleen from Doesburg, NetherlandsNormally I try to avoid traffic signs in pictures, but after viewing your pics I won't do that any more!;-)) 14 Feb 2011 2:12pm @Marleen: Working this site certainly changes any established rules of photography, I assure you, Marleen ! (Ronnie) ripple from Nottingham, United KingdomI love this one - once again quite a giggle. 14 Feb 2011 2:44pm marci from in, Moroccotrue story! a few years back I saw a new campaign for drivers: over the limit. under arrest. my thought was "wow, that's really, really harsh!" until I realized that it wasn't referring to speed limit at all, but instead to blood alcohol limit. and I'm all for that! 14 Feb 2011 3:24pm @marci: ha ha, yes . . it does read either way . . but I sure agree with the real intent. (Ronnie) Dilwenn from Bordeaux, FranceIl faut respecter les limites et pas les jeter par terre :) 14 Feb 2011 4:07pm @Dilwenn: Bien dit, mon friemd. Ayons le respect! (Ronnie) © Jean-Bernard Reynier from Lyon, FranceGreat story here ! 14 Feb 2011 5:06pm Tede from Aubenas 07, FranceWhile all these signs complicated I think I'm lost :) Good day. 14 Feb 2011 5:12pm Michael from Chester, United KingdomI am sure if they banned all women drivers they could also remove 90% of street signs. Do I hear Lilly hissing..... ? :0 14 Feb 2011 6:41pm @Michael: [Where did I put my tin hat ? (Invisible Ronnie)] Jean-Louis from Nîmes, FranceIl faut chercher vraiment ce qui n'est pas limité !! 14 Feb 2011 7:14pm ✿ Anina ✿ from Auckland, New ZealandGoodness, I'll have to drive slower than 30 to be able to read all those signs on the left when driving past. Next winter somebody might decide to add another sign: " SNOW ". 14 Feb 2011 8:37pm @apodromos: Σας ευχαριστώ, φίλο! bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaAh yes, another clever take from the two of you. I have to say that that is sure a lot of snow!!! 14 Feb 2011 9:42pm dulang from Santa Rosa, United Statesa great story! A picture is worth a thousand words, as they say. 14 Feb 2011 9:47pm fiziskandarZ from United Kingdomhuhuhu look at the think snow. must not be easy to walk onto :) 14 Feb 2011 10:15pm ¨‘°ºO Dutçh Oº°‘¨ from Neverwhere, United StatesLiterally is true! There are so many downed signs right now after the blizzard it's a novelty to see one standing! Great composition guys! 14 Feb 2011 10:40pm Steve Rice from Olympia, United StatesI do like those signs that warn of reduced speeds for sharp corners. In some places I've been you ignore them at your peril. 14 Feb 2011 11:42pm Annie Viguié from Bordeaux, FranceWhen there are too many signs ... I do not know what to do .... ;o) 15 Feb 2011 5:52am Pavan Kaul from Mumbai, IndiaWonderfully seen and captured...great conversation:) 15 Feb 2011 7:42am @Pavan Kaul: Thanks, Pavan. (L&R) Stephen from Canberra, AustraliaOne good thing about signs is that you can often change the wording with a quick bit of graffiti. Here, for example, I'm sure Lilly would agree that adding a "C" to the "HILL" sign would give it much more meaning! 15 Feb 2011 10:37am @Stephen: ha ha . . nice one, Stephen ! I shall be on the lookout for those today ! (Ronnie) Viewfinder from Bradenton, FL, United StatesLol. BTW, from your comment at my site, you might want to check out this link on that museum roof I posted. 15 Feb 2011 2:30pm @Viewfinder: Thanks, Glenn . . yes, there's a lot of that stuff about right now but insulation made from discard bluejeans is new to me ! (Pale-Green Ronnie) Don from Spokane, United StatesA neat "find" to locate a downed sign to use so well. Your usual high quality comment too. Well done. 15 Feb 2011 3:27pm Franz from Baden, Austriai sincerely hope the weight limits have nothing to do with you, lilly ... ;-) 15 Feb 2011 4:50pm B. Thomas from Arlington, Texas, United StatesI don't like weight limits. No need to get personal... Happy Valentine's Day and Silly Tuesday all together. 15 Feb 2011 5:04pm Elaine- from Canadahaha here's what i got to say about yer '30'!!!! fun post as usual :) 15 Feb 2011 5:11pm Tamara from Aarschot, BelgiumLol... hills ? I can't see any hills ! Happy St :) Well done ! 15 Feb 2011 5:43pm Sam from Chennai, IndiaWell seen and captured. Lovely conversation as always... Love it. :) 15 Feb 2011 6:02pm Céline from New York City, United StatesLilly : nice DOF ! Ronnie : nice vignetting ! 15 Feb 2011 9:29pm Julie Brown from Indianapolis, United StatesYou always have the perfect commentary! 15 Feb 2011 10:12pm jeff (aka dogilicious) from Millerstown, PA, United StatesHAHA, The right is how it should be! 15 Feb 2011 10:50pm JCJ from Troyes, Francehaha! sometimes i don't get your humour because of the language, now, I clearly understand and appreciate. great :D 15 Feb 2011 11:12pm @JCJ: Smiles . . yes, this one travels well, we thought ! Thanks, JCJ. Philip from South Wales, United Kingdomha ha - very good. I could do with someone removing some of the road signs the council have put up recently...budget cuts what budget cuts!! 16 Feb 2011 12:32am Becky from los angeles, United StatesHa! I'm with Lilly - TOO many restrictions - everywhere if you ask me! Great shot as usual - : )! 16 Feb 2011 1:13am Stephen Phillips from San Francisco, United StatesI'll be there in no time - flat! 16 Feb 2011 2:50am @Stephen Phillips: lol . . nice one ! Steven from Chicagoland, United StatesSo many restrictions that lead to streets with a lot of sign clutter. Thank you for removing one of them. ;-) 16 Feb 2011 2:59am @Steven: ha ha . ."Not me, Officer" ! Andrea from Regina, CanadaYes, one must look out for lurking hills. That reminds me of the "curve in the road" sign one sees in the middle of the flat prairies, (as if you couldn't see it approaching for the last two kilometres), which understandably takes folk by surprise when it is the only change in scenery since the last curve an hour before. 16 Feb 2011 3:17am @Andrea: Yes, agreed. There are enough of those totally unnecessary signs out there to fill a whole website - I'm sure someone is doing it somewhere ! Thanks, Andrea. (Ronnie) Doug from Long Beach, United StatesThe easiest way to read signs is when they're lying on the ground. Everyone knows that. 16 Feb 2011 6:09am k@ from Paris, FranceThis one down here now is for snails & slugs to climb on without any risk to drive over 30 ;)) 16 Feb 2011 11:23am @k@: My snails send their regards . . just keep the knife and fork out of sight ! Have a great day, Karine. (Ronnie) hugo poon from hong kong, Hong KongMaybe lying down is just a way to catch more attention... you know, already too many signs out there!:-) Fantastic observation and lovely presentation, as always! Have a nice day... and do concentrate while driving!:-))) 16 Feb 2011 3:27pm Evelyne Dubos from Le Mans, FranceOh, oh... i have the impression that some are tired of the limitations and various bans... 16 Feb 2011 4:53pm @Evelyne Dubos: Thanks, Evelyne. Yes, the 'Hill' sign is a strange one to me, too . . I believe it is there because the hill is out f sight around a corner. (Ronnie) @Goddess: Bad Goddess. (Ronnie) Through the Lens from United StatesIt looks like someone might need to fix that sign a bit, Ronnie... Excellent composition! 17 Feb 2011 1:31am tyan from Singapore, Singaporehoho,30 does seem a bit slow for me,but maybe its due to the slippery weather!:) 17 Feb 2011 3:13am Christine from Duns, United KingdomSooo many signs these days, you can't see the sign for the sign! 17 Feb 2011 4:55pm MadScientist from Düsseldorf, GermanyAt least one place where civil disobedience lives! 20 Feb 2011 12:01am Akarui from Kagoshima, JapanVery good juxtaposition of pictures and dialog as usual. On Lilly photo the snow makes those signs useless and funny. Ronnie you should take care before crossing the street and don't hide behind one of those sign please ! 20 Feb 2011 12:14am dobbino from Cape Town, South AfricaLooks like nobody could even get there, let alone park there! But I like your thought process with the two images. 3 Mar 2011 1:06pm |
