I can send several emergencies your way, express!

A deer would be a site to see, worth waiting for.
As for Ronnie, I don't think you will ever see a Gap Jump, you have to be trained personnel. It is at least a 3 year program.
Lily will see many deer in that amount of time.
You've entertained my thoughts again.

I dont have a clue what is a Gap Jumper, except that its not a deer and s/he is a trained personnel.
3 Jun 2010 4:35am
That's because the deer can't read that they are supposed to cross there :) Are they really expecting you to jump through a gap in an emergency ... eeeeek! Sometimes you wonder which bright light makes up these signs, they are hilarious! Great observation!

I understand gap as a hole, jumper as a garment/or somebody who jumps...but the 2 together....mystère :-)

Gap Jumper.. Hmmm is that some kind of fashionable knitwear? For unexpected cold days perhaps:)
3 Jun 2010 8:55am
Oh boy, I hope Ronnie doesn't create his own "emergency" in order to see some gap jumping. ;-)

Now I am dying to know what a Gap Jumper is....sounds very mysterious.....(anything to do with "mind the gap" on the Underground?). My grandmothers house in Guildford was named "the Gap" - and I am sure I jumped there when I was a child, so I guess I could be a Gap Jumper.....
The deer sign reminds me of when I was driving out west and saw signs for Deer Crossing - next 100 miles!!

@Chris: smiles . . ok, Chris, here's the scoop ! A “Gap Jumper” is a set of leads on London Underground railways to provide emergency power to a stalled train. There is a plug at one end for connection to the train and “shoes” at the other end to place on the live current rails. Those rails are energized at 420 V DC, and -210 V DC, which combine to provide a traction voltage of 630 V DC so, please, don't try this at home, folks ! (Ronnie)
LOL what a cool pair of signs, well found and put together

See, like grouser, I would have thought if you opened the box, there would be a jumper from Gap inside, but you could only use it in emergencies, like if the weather suddenly turned. But what do I know?
3 Jun 2010 8:43pm
"To be used by trained personnel only", the sign says. There's your problem, Ronnie. No one has been trained to do the jumping. ;-)
3 Jun 2010 9:52pm
Aahhh ! How silly isn't it ! But Ronnie, you are a talented "catcher" ! :-)
4 Jun 2010 6:52am
I mis-read that sign at first and thought it was "gas" and not "gap." Did some "googling" to get an understanding. :-) Thanks for today's lesson. :-)

@Steven: ha ha . . you probably came across the handful of entries that I found - including someone having posted it on Flickr. (Ronnie)
If Chris had not asked the question about "gas jumper" then I would have asked. But then in reading further down, I see my error. At first glance, my eyes told me this said "gas jumper" and not "gap jumper." Funny the tricks our eyes and assumptions play on us.

@Viewfinder: Yes, sometimes, we see what we expect to see and work from there. I've ridden past this sign countless times and never knew what it meant until this posting made me go look ! Thanks, Glenn. (Ronnie)
Good evening, Ronnie,
the importance of the two signs, I understand. The right sign has nothing to do with deer. But it would be very dangerous if the emergency exit would be placed under power. After that, no one jumps. This situation, I would not imagine in my mind. I think that the right sign is an interesting deterrent and warning to all who read it. Again it was very interesting and also fun to visit your site. Have a nice evening and thanks for your nice comments. 5 Stars ***** for you. Dear greetings Christel

Like Viewfinder, at first I thought it was "gas" jumper. I had no idea what that was so thanks for telling us.. Funny signs.
4 Jun 2010 9:07pm
These two should get together. Gap jumping deer would be quite a show!
4 Jun 2010 10:24pm
What the gap did not jump? I'm so surpirised ;-)
Always clever!
5 Jun 2010 1:09am
Why not try to brng a deer near the gap, there's still a chance that it will jump over it :p
5 Jun 2010 9:55am
"For trained personnel only"... I bet! In Germany we have specially built study paths for gap jumping and deer x-ing!
5 Jun 2010 1:30pm
Signs like this are one of my favorite things! These are wonderful! Even though I have no idea what one may want to jump a gap for....!
5 Jun 2010 3:05pm
@Tracy: Thanks, Tracy. There's an attempt at explanation up there under the Comment by Chris. (Ronnie)
In my neighborhood a sign says to watch for slow kids but I haven't seen any yet.
6 Jun 2010 1:06am
Ahhh.... Now I know what the 'gap jumper' is! ;) (I read your answer under the comment from Chris)
