Lilly : Did you ever get to send me those old postcards you were promising ? I keep checking the mail.
Ronnie : I've tried but they come back saying the 1964 Australian stamps are not valid.
Lilly : Sometimes, I can sense you had difficulty even with the 20th Century, Ronnie.!

Ah, Ronnie, Ronnie, it's charming the way you keep clinging to the past ! ......
(Resulting in these beautifully composed scenarios.)
Lovely stamps, I can see why you'd not want to give up on them !!
26 May 2011 5:44am
Not mentioning the Euros and so many changing little daily things ! Ha, i can relate too... ;))
26 May 2011 6:54am
Stamps are nice indeed. Love idea and concept of your post of the day. Where are the good times gone ? :-)
26 May 2011 7:30am
@Florence: I was told yesterday these ARE the good times, Florence . . now, I'm really worried ! (Ronnie)
Postman postman don't be slow

26 May 2011 8:04am
Ronnie excellent dialogue! Lilly's comments are sometimes a bit sharp I feel so even with my poor English! Dialogue makes me smile full of good humor and how it works the picture in my mind. In a few days I have a gift for you! My memory on other sites! Best regards, Adela
26 May 2011 8:14am
:)))))))))
I like this way for showing our emotions.I know its out-of-date but I love it :)
26 May 2011 8:36am
Ronnie is going to have you buy new stamps :)) Good day, friendships.
26 May 2011 9:05am
Must be a mental crisis, do you post in the left box or the right box?
26 May 2011 9:23am
Lol... Now I'm gonna have that song the whole day in my head :) A very beautiful capture btw... Have a lovely day :)
26 May 2011 9:24am
@Tamara: ha ha . . sorry about that . . it is going round here, too !! (Ronnie Returned)
A very beautiful framing ! remember me postcards and stamps which we collected !
26 May 2011 9:50am
@Mhelene: Yes, I see one of those stamps marks the 'Colombo Plan' of 1951 . . and it is still in place !
It's not fair! People should keep traditions alive. The red letter box is but an example.
26 May 2011 10:48am
The postal service does indeed have two classes. Bills always come the next day, anything else takes 1-2-3 months. If I were you Ronnie, I would just give Lilly the postcards-you can always cheat by leaving them on the doormat..
26 May 2011 11:21am
maybe those old stamps worth more than just to send a letter with them :)
26 May 2011 12:26pm
I hope Lilly gets these postcards eventually - the old stamps might be very valuable by now! Just a thought - your Snail mail might get these delivered quicker!
26 May 2011 12:47pm
@Stephen: ha ha . . now, there's a thought !! (Ronnie)
Fantastique compo avec le oint de la carte psotale, et ce boite en fond superbe compo
26 May 2011 1:12pm
I like the letter boxes...very cool! And....why give away the old postcards? They might make you a nice round amount...there are plenty of collectors, antique shops or antiquated fellows...
26 May 2011 1:42pm
There are no pigeons avaible?
This picture would make a great postcard too!
26 May 2011 1:45pm
@Thea: What a nice thought, Thea - I think you are right ! (Ronnie)
Hahaha, how is it possible that after seeing your creation I suddenly think of Elvis...???
Awesome work, TwoSense!
26 May 2011 3:00pm
@Marleen: Smiles . . thank you. Elvis would be aged 76 this year. So difficult to believe !! (Ronnie)
Hold on to those stamps - who knows, in this economy they may be worth something one day! : )
Fabulous image - and Thea is right - would make a great postcard!
26 May 2011 3:10pm
A very nostalgic image really with the old post box and cards. Ronnie your nails are a bit rough.. manicure time ;) Teasing you.
26 May 2011 4:16pm
@Dutch: ha ha . . I'm hoping to get my nails trimmed under the Veterans' Program !! Not long to wait, now . . (Ronnie)
Where is Elvis when we need him? Please help me STAMP that song out of my mind!
26 May 2011 4:20pm
Ha! The postage stamp prices never stop increasing, and at increasingly rapid paces. I love the composition here; such a warmth in the red and wonderful detail. Postcards still arrive in my mailbox from time to time, and they are always appreciated.
26 May 2011 5:03pm
I like the romantic mood and the compostion - thank you very much for your good words
26 May 2011 6:14pm
@yiannis krikis: You are very welcome and deserving of praise for your fine work, Yiannis. (L&R)
Ha ha - getting a postcard in the mail today is indeed a rare occassion treat. That 1961 stamp should be worth a penny or two.
26 May 2011 8:09pm
i love your sories, and I love the photo that fits so well with it! And this is excellently framed.Excellent!
26 May 2011 8:14pm
A great commentary on our times. And of the Luddites among us who value the very best of yesteryear. Nice penmanship, by the way, scribbled with what appears to be a fountain pen.
26 May 2011 8:25pm
Great shot and story, I love it! -- I miss sending and receiving letters in the mail for keepsakes; the personal touch is missed with email today.
26 May 2011 8:46pm
Two elegant letter boxes there. Those stamps should work; it looks like the Queen to me. Keep trying, a clerk will eventually let it slip through. (As an aside, we had some old stamps with no denomination on them. We had long forgotten their value so asked at the Post Office. The clerk said he had no idea. He said just put the letter in the mail and see what happens. Well, it didn't come back.)
26 May 2011 9:14pm
Great shot...bright, crisp colors, and I love the idea!
26 May 2011 9:38pm
With all due respect to Mr Grouser and good old swivel hips himself (Elvis, that is) I MUCH prefer Joe Cocker's version of "The Letter" SO get a ticked for an aeroplane <r Ronnie and don't be takin' no time to take fast train - lonely days are gone..you need to be headin' nome..Lilly wrote you a letter...PS -as always, your posts take the prize yoo too!
26 May 2011 9:43pm
And, as you can see, my cryptic, error-ridden writing will keep people guessing for weeks....if I had a point I could say that you get it...but I don't /.\
26 May 2011 9:45pm
Hey the 21st Century is even tougher! (I need to hire a teenager every time something electronic breaks)!
26 May 2011 10:10pm
Make sure they get the toes done too Ronnie :D
26 May 2011 11:16pm
@Dutch: ha ha . . I had to leave the toes with them - need to be sent away for additional treatment, they said. (Ronnie)
Wonderful presentation Ronnie! Very clever and brilliant caption! Always well done too!!!!
26 May 2011 11:48pm
Incredibly lovely vintage letter boxes and stamps... put together in a flawless composition! The light, tone, fine details are such a beauty!!! And as always your brilliant and amusing plot just makes this complete! What a magical and charming image!
27 May 2011 12:38am
@hugo poon: wow . . thank you Hugo !
This is too funny! Some of us are clearly anachronistic in these postmodern times we currently occupy.
27 May 2011 2:00am
I think anything with the queen's likeness ought to be sent speedily along... I'm amazed it doesn't work that way!
27 May 2011 3:41am
I love the ornate letter boxes. Beautiful use of lighting here.
27 May 2011 4:04am
@Steven: According to Wiki, Lilly's 'mail chute' was an old collection system used in tall buildings from around 1890 and still to be found in NYC and Chicago. (Ronnie)
some words are lost forever if the letters are lost. how sad. but how wonderful when one gets a letters that wasn't intended for him or her, and gets to find out pieces from somebody else's life...
27 May 2011 5:17am
@Lara: Yes . . that is a real postcard sent by a real person back on November 11, 1964 from Bega, NSW, Australia . . I wonder how that got into an antique shop in London, England 45 years later ?! (Ronnie)
Those golden days,we miss a lot....from where you get all these stuff...wonderful image.
27 May 2011 11:10am
Love those letter boxes, I loved getting postcards, no one sends them anymore, instead it's a photo from their phone
27 May 2011 11:23am
wow...you really keep lots of antique with you!!:)
27 May 2011 12:29pm
Another clever success. Great idea translated into a fine picture.
27 May 2011 2:28pm
you guys are hilarious!!!
I love the antique feel/mood of this picture!
27 May 2011 2:31pm
I'm always entertained by your posts, but I would like to say how wonderful your photos are.
27 May 2011 4:49pm
I love the POV, you're a genius ! And as usually, the story is excellent !! CONGRATS.
27 May 2011 5:44pm
Oh! I like 1964 Australian stamps, :D
But the question is why Ronnie want to send the postcards to Lilly, if they're living together?! ;D
27 May 2011 8:19pm
@ORBIT: We are 6,000 kilometers apart - USA and UK ! (Lilly and Ronnie)
Creative photo and text as usual! I sort of recognize myself... sometimes things are just not easy in any century....
27 May 2011 10:07pm
@Albert: Thanks, Albert - there's a bit of all of us in some of these moments and we do try to make it that way ! (Ronnie)
@ORBIT: No probs, Orbit - we are all in this together, really ! (Lilly and Ronnie)
Great memory from times when we all really waited for messages... But hey, you could try to make a snapshot of postcard and post it to Facebook :)
28 May 2011 5:30am
In these modern times, I like the idea to write and send postcards with beautiful stamps (even obsolete ....) ;o)))
28 May 2011 6:10am
@Annie Viguié: Somehow, I thought you might ! (Ronnie)
I can certainly understand the confusion - after all, it is the same picture (she certainly gets around, doesn't she?)
28 May 2011 11:59am
Wow. What a lovely presentation of old times ...
Ronnie, you are a genius. Love the post boxes, old stamps address slip and the whole lot so perfectly designed ...
So much of thoughts and perfect presentation. Five Stars***** and more :)
28 May 2011 3:40pm
@Sam: Thank you for your kindness, Sam. Untold here are the stories to the three images used in this composition . . but it is the postcard that makes me think most of all ! (Ronnie)
You truly ARE a kindred soul...
28 May 2011 5:12pm
i'm a big fan of still sending postcards! it's so retro ....
29 May 2011 2:40am
I'm just amazed and in awe. Absolutely stunning piece of storytelling. Lovely picture and story Ronnie. Cheers!
29 May 2011 3:32am
@Nitin: wow . . thanks, Nitin ! (L R)
Hmmm.... well maybe you should send them by electronic post Ronnie, I don't think the stamps will be noticed.
29 May 2011 3:50am
@Michael Fresh: What an electrifying thought . . I'm sure I saw a 'send postcard' key here someplace ! (Ronnie)
Un collectionneur serait ravi !... ))
On ne peut plus avoir ça avec les mails ....
29 May 2011 9:26am
@tataray: D'accord - un e-mail n'a pas de qualités durables! Profitez de dimanche, tataray !
Wouldn't you want to keep that lovely portrait of the young Queen? :)
29 May 2011 1:52pm
wonderfull, 1964, yes, it s a bit late for the return ;-P
29 May 2011 2:24pm
This 'imperial' US letter box is indeed surprising! Where are my 30's stamps...
29 May 2011 8:39pm
@MadScientist: Yes, we since learned that it is not a letterbox as such but a 'mail chute' through which post was collected within tall buildings. Wiki page here.
Beautiful mail boxes, old post card and stamp of the Queen.
I am posting again on only one blog for the moment.
30 May 2011 1:03am
Wonderful composition and so beautiful mail boxes...love it ! Excellent !!!
30 May 2011 4:52pm
that'll do it for sure!
even in the Land of Aus!
4 Jun 2011 11:40am
I miss getting 'actual' post cards! I remember as a kid sending tons of them to my friends and family! My girls will probably never understand the joy in it! Nor ever send one! :(
Fantastic work, as always!
