Lilly : Some signs seem to contradict themselves . . do you find that ?
Ronnie : Well, this one sure is clear enough.
Lilly : Maybe - but they don't say why, Ronnie.

Some things you just need to accept ............ ;-))
22 Aug 2013 6:17am
I may not want to smoke but please let me walk on the earth ! after all Arlo can do the smoking :-)
22 Aug 2013 6:23am
@Doug: ha ha . . yes, well put !
You cannot discuss with signs... and that's why they set them there!
But can we imagine a world without them?
22 Aug 2013 7:45am
@Longroute: Good thinking - you are right ! (Ronnie)
@Tede: Merci, Tede - avoir un grand jour !
I think the investigative journalist in you needs to dig the dirt on that one Ronnie
22 Aug 2013 9:17am
@grouser: ha ha . . I like it ! (Crime Reporter Ronnie)
@Ana Lúcia: Yeah, true . . maybe I can walk on the smoking area and blow smoke over their soil ?! (Ronnie)
It is common to give part of the idea implied and sometimes it generates reasonable doubt.
22 Aug 2013 10:02am
@El pare: We should get you to write the notices, Manel ! (Ronnie)
well , that's so needed to explane of this subj , but i be glad to see your picture ;)
22 Aug 2013 10:36am
@Romina: Smiles . . just sit back and enjoy the view, Romina ! ( from Lilly )
@Bruno FROMENTIERE: Oh, I had missed you since "Interruption momentanée du trafic... #3" ! (Ronnie)
I find it disturbing that the soil sign is funded by the lottery. You might want to "dig" into that. Maybe the idea is they want you to run or jog istead of walk - better for your health?
Better ask Arlo about Lilly's contradictory sign - he is the expert on smoking after all.
22 Aug 2013 11:52am
@Ruthiebear: Arlo . . I've not seen him for a couple of days - that's always worrying. (Ronnie)
Toujours et partout des interdits ....
C'est ainsi !.... :)))))))
22 Aug 2013 11:55am
...and they do this without any Photoshop? How amazing!
22 Aug 2013 12:19pm
I worked for a fancy gallery that had a lovely lawn and a sign said, Keep off Lawn. I sneered every day I went to work, and kicked off my shoes sometimes and walked on it. It's just getting so ridiculous and insane. But Ronnie and Lilly hold the balance and keep it hilarious. :D
22 Aug 2013 12:22pm
@Joyce: Yes . . whole world out there looks OurTwoSense at times ! (Ronnie)
And the sign said,
"Long-haired freaky people
Need not apply."
So I tucked my hair up under my hat
And I went in to ask him why.
He said, "You look like a fine upstandin' young man.
I think you'll do."
So I took off my hat and said, "Imagine that.
huh , me workin' for you."
Whoa, sign, sign.
Everywhere a sign.
Blockin' out the scen'ry.
Breakin' my mind.
Do this. Don't do that.
Can't you read the sign?
And the sign said,
"Anybody caught trespassin'
Will be shot on sight."
So I jumped on the fence and I yelled at the house,
"Hey! What gives you the right
To put up a fence to keep me out,
But to keep Mother Nature in?
If God was here, he'd tell you to your face,
'Man, you're some kind of sinner.'"
Sign, sign.
Everywhere a sign.
Blockin' out the scenery.
Breakin' my mind.
Do this. Don't do that.
Can't you read the sign?
These lyrics immedicate came to mind Ronnie! ;-)
22 Aug 2013 1:08pm
@Eric Cousineau: Oh, yes, a perfect match, Eric . . (Ronnie)
Did they mean, please don't soil on our walk??
22 Aug 2013 1:15pm
@Curly: ha ha . . yes, that would be right useful around my way, Curly ! (Ronnie)
Oh my, totally utterly stupid but interesting!:-) You two will soon have enough pics to publish a book on the most peculiar signs!
22 Aug 2013 1:47pm
No mention of fines though. I was in a national park a few days ago where the fine for stepping off the trail is $50.
22 Aug 2013 2:05pm
Ha, ha, ha ! Please don't smoke on our soil !? Very inspired, again !
22 Aug 2013 2:10pm
@Gheorghe: Yeah, they could each share the Rules !
so weiird those signs, great that you can find them. :-)
22 Aug 2013 2:41pm
encore une superbe compo quels paneaux et vue splendide compo.
amitié
22 Aug 2013 2:49pm
@Nicou: Merci, ami. (R)
Great finds, their soil, they might have difficulty proving that
22 Aug 2013 3:18pm
@Christine: Yes - and I wonder to what depth ?! (Ronnie)
Ronnie world is full of contradictions. A man thinks he is the smartest .. ;)
22 Aug 2013 6:05pm
I don't agree with Lilly because lots of signs do not actually offer any explanation... (any?) But in my opinion, there are signs... and signs... Couldn't the people on this project from Lottery Fund have wasted a little more in their sign???? What a project that could be?? ;-)
22 Aug 2013 6:17pm
Maybe you can walk on the soil as long as you're not barefoot? :-) Odd that a footprint is used rather than a shoe print. Or was this on a beach?
22 Aug 2013 6:40pm
@Steven: Nope, no beach ! It was a partly-cultivated garden. (Ronnie)
yet another example - and a brilliant one! - of signs, signs, signs telling us what to do and not to do ... ;-)
22 Aug 2013 6:52pm
I find the one at the left really perplexing. It seems that they don't want to contaminate with pure air the smoking area (which has some logic in second thought).
22 Aug 2013 7:01pm
@Francisco Romero: Odd, huh ?!
Too many don't's in the world . Need some OK to walk on the grass.
22 Aug 2013 7:07pm
@Bruce: Well said, sir !
There are still too many forbidden, it may say stop. A slogan in May 1968 in France said. "It is forbidden to forbid".
Have a good evening.
22 Aug 2013 8:00pm
@gerard1948: "It is forbidden to forbid" - I like that ! (Ronnie)
Maybe it is a levitation camp and they all float around! That is quite an interesting sign. There are just too many signs everywhere.
22 Aug 2013 9:12pm
@Elaine Hancock: Interesting idea - I shoulda searched the skies ! (Ronnie)
Excellent idea :) you should see some of the signs here in Mexico...
22 Aug 2013 11:02pm
it sure is a contradiction...it makes me wonder how one goes about that :-))
23 Aug 2013 3:02am
Too many signs - everywhere ! These are over the top !!
23 Aug 2013 3:17am
I'm sure you two will pick up your butts and dig up all the dirt on the reasons for those signs of the times.
23 Aug 2013 3:18am
@B. Thomas: Smiles . . I can see you have entered into the spirit of it all ! - have a lovely weekend, Barbara. (Ronnie)
Good dialog - which side of the sign can you smoke on? Is it okay to walk if you have shoes on? A thoughtful pair of photos and comments.
23 Aug 2013 3:23am
@Harry: Yeah, questions, questions . . signs like these need an Information Point ! (Ronnie)
No problems, I'll light up my Marlborough right in the middle of the flower bed wearing my Doc Martens, there's no visible soil there, I've obeyed all the rules, everyone's happy
23 Aug 2013 6:26am
@CElliottUK: The Happiness Control Officer usually comes thru at nine-thirty . . just so you know. (Ronnie)
I've read about this new lottery-funded soil, it is apparently very fragile.
23 Aug 2013 8:13am
@Daryl Johnson: Yes, and any misuse it could be clawed back, Daryl. (Ronnie)
No walking !! That's it ! I can drive through with a pipe!!!
23 Aug 2013 8:14am
@Devi: Always a way around these restrictions, Devi - good luck with the pipe ! (Ronnie)
Maybe a bit of photographic slithering would be ok here ... I will ask Doug!
23 Aug 2013 9:24am
Perhaps "Do not walk on the grass" went unheeded, so they had to change it to "soil"?
23 Aug 2013 10:37am
Ah, a command to levitate at least 20 feet from the entrance!
23 Aug 2013 2:52pm
@Don: I did the training course, Don . . but failed the test. (Ronnie Grounded)
Ronnie always surprises with their photographs, it is a pleasure for me to sit and smile, thanks buddy
23 Aug 2013 3:34pm
@Melocoton: Many of them even surprise me, Pablo! ( from Lilly )
It seems Lilly is one of those people, like me, who wants to know the "why" behind the statement. Keep it up, Lilly. :-)
23 Aug 2013 4:55pm
@Anita: Thank you, Anita. Nice to know there are two of us! ( from Lilly )
rules, rules, rules, why? thank you for your visits and kind comments!
23 Aug 2013 5:42pm
Very funny:-)
of any problems created problems ....
can you understand that? I do not!
'm Always amazed about the rules .....
about contradict spoken,)
23 Aug 2013 7:16pm
You really know how to put things together. I like the humour.
24 Aug 2013 1:49am
@Michael Rawluk: Thank you, Michael - have a great weekend. (L&R)
I'm waiting now for Don't look at this - but too late ! And I'll walk in because i'm a nasty gal (yet I don't smoke ;)
24 Aug 2013 6:16am
@k@: ha ha . . yes . . we do have a sticker saying "This Notice Has Been Removed" . . must use that one day. Enjoy the w/e. (Ronnie)
:) very nice!
Amazing!
.
Thank you so much for your feeling, attention and kindness!
24 Aug 2013 11:24am
@omid: You had me looking back to see what I'd said there ! Thanks, Omid. (Ronnie)
There are signs difficult to accept. Ana Lucia!
I agree!
A hug, Adela
24 Aug 2013 6:21pm
@Patrick M.: Banning is a growth industry, it seems. (Ronnie)
yes but walking on the hands is allowed !
25 Aug 2013 11:50am
@véronique cherpantier: lol . . nice one !! (Ronnie)
Some signs definitely defeat the reason why they even exist :)
25 Aug 2013 3:02pm
@Marilla: So true - and in so many ways, too, Marilla. (Ronnie)
@Aly: Thank you - and you, too, Aly ! (L&R)
Prohibitions sometimes contradict themselves and we get confused there! But in this special case Véronique find a good solution. :-))
25 Aug 2013 8:06pm
@Evelyne Dubos: . . ah, indeed, there is always a way . . . (Ronnie)
we all live on signs??
visible and invisible? ;-))
yours are very visible and clear! :-))
25 Aug 2013 8:16pm
Superbly noticed and I to think we have far too many.
27 Aug 2013 7:42pm
That song ... Signs , signs , everywhere is signs ....
29 Aug 2013 7:18pm
Our TV is now showing a series of Ikea ads, where parents say to their kids things like "Don't play with food!" or "Don't hunch at the table!", but the children breach that rules by asking "Can we play a match then?" or "Can we hunch under the table?" and everybody ends up making free throws into the basket with apples and cucumbers, or hunching to attend a doll tea party under the table (and everybody is happy, because they're having fun at their ikea-furnished houses). I also recall my primary school times (however vaguely), when a colleague had to urgently go to pee, so he asked "Can I leave the room?" - but the teacher said "No! You cannot walk out of this room now!" Since he really really had to go, the boy asked again, this time saying "Could I crawl out instead?" and since the teacher went speechless, he did.
Maybe that's the way to go around such prohibitions. No smoking within 20 ft of the entrance? How about 15 ft? Or 10?
