Lilly : I guess you have these ugly meters on the streets over there ?
Ronnie : Yes, but ours accept coins, Lilly.
Lilly : Oh, how quaint - and foreign coins, too, I suppose . . . but still ugly.

@Devi: Some things never change, Devi - have a good week ! (Ronnie)
A heavy pocket full to carry around. Another interesting, funny and great photo.
28 Oct 2013 5:25am
I had never put you down as a coin collector Ronnie, do you have franc's and marks too or have they got their own
28 Oct 2013 6:53am
@Doug: lol . . right on the money there . . to coin a phrase. Have a storm-free week, Doug ! (Ronnie)
Is it a Parkometer? I never see such things. It's more alien than ugly. By the way I love your presentation of this weird thing :)
28 Oct 2013 8:16am
@amir jafari: Thank you - and how lucky you are not to have these vile things on your streets ! (Ronnie)
Superbe tirelire, dommage on ne peut pas s'en servir :) Bonne journée.
28 Oct 2013 8:17am
@Tede: Merci Tede, avoir une très bonne semaine. ( L&R)
I'm surprised your meters still take coins Ronnie. Ours just gobble notes nowadays.
28 Oct 2013 8:34am
@kiwisa: Oh, don't lert them know that ! (Ronnie)
Am I reading that correctly?
£2 per hour??
With a congestion charge on top of that??
Do you take a security man along with you to feed the meter?
28 Oct 2013 9:38am
@Curly: Yes, you are right, Curly - £1.00 / $1.60 for 30 minutes ! (Ronnie)
You can bank on the fact that it's on the cards that I will cheque this change out
28 Oct 2013 10:33am
@grouser: Have you been on an O2S training course, G'ser ? (Ronnie)
What a glorious clatter you could make if you dropped all of those coins!
28 Oct 2013 12:08pm
That's quite the handful of coin Ronnie! Parking is sure getting expensive! ;-))
28 Oct 2013 12:43pm
A fine comparison that I find very interesting. We never seem to have the right coins for a meter.
28 Oct 2013 2:34pm
@Don: I know . . always a lot of exchanging and swapping . .
A interesting and funny image/short story, as always.
28 Oct 2013 3:25pm
@jpla: Jackpot ! (R)
Briliant capture Ronnie! It seems that no change is given according to the sign but it appears you may have enough :)
28 Oct 2013 4:30pm
@Frances Gaffey: . . enough for an overnight stay, I think ! (Ronnie)
Expensive and in addition no facilities. Someday we say: ENOUGH ????
28 Oct 2013 4:42pm
Maybe invite friends from Aminus for one beer Ronnie? ;)
fine idea..
28 Oct 2013 5:09pm
Here they take credit cards instead of dollars. Still ugly things though.
28 Oct 2013 5:29pm
@Ruthiebear: Yes, with ours you can pay by phone . . anything to get our money. (Ronnie)
Excellent dialogue as always ... and a good staging! A hug friends!
28 Oct 2013 6:12pm
Always goes wrong. Once I have coins, then they are not valid. The world is a cruel place
28 Oct 2013 6:13pm
@Jypyä Pop: No going back to good times, sadly . . (Ronnie)
If no cash, no problem,... no pay
28 Oct 2013 6:48pm
@El pare: . . worth a try, I suppose, Manel ! (Ronnie)
It seems that you need to park there for a long time. Remember that it doesn't give change.
28 Oct 2013 8:14pm
I haven't seen a parking meter in so long I don't know how they're set up now. Last time I know I used quarters ($.25 US). ;D
28 Oct 2013 9:42pm
@Judy aka L@dybug: Oh, my - for a quarter, you could not even lean against the meter ! (Ronnie)
That's a lot of change!! How much do you pay an hour? :-)
28 Oct 2013 10:31pm
@Steven: $3.25 / £2.00 per hour ! (Ronnie)
We still have quite a few meters that require change around here. I have a stash in my car. But they are quickly being replaced by ones that take credit cards or you pay with your cell phone. And when they don't work, it can be a real pain. I never remember the change ones breaking down. They just ate your money!
28 Oct 2013 10:40pm
@Elaine Hancock: Yes, I can identify with all that. We also have 'Residents' Parking' concessions (at a price!) which are am expensive pain. I'll spare you the details . . (Ronnie)
Actually we have a very small parkometers that charge with cards not change, but still I don't feel lucky with them :)
28 Oct 2013 11:01pm
Well here in the "land of the free" (yah, right!), we have taxes and tolls and tickets and polls, all of which merrily sift our coffers clean....as in empty. The only "cash" I have is one of Johnny's albums (Folsom Prison)...This wonderful and hilarious post does conjure fond memories of the parking meters here on our streets that actually accepted a US nickel - 5 cents.....which makes me realize that your 2 cents is one hell of a lot more fun and definitely much more valuable!! That's my diatribe for this month...Cheers and hugs you two <3
28 Oct 2013 11:11pm
@Denny Jump Photo: Always look forward to your contributions, Denny . . picked this one up at gone 2 in the morning ! (Ronnie Awake)
my mother taught me: 'he that despises the little is not worthy of the great.' ;-))
28 Oct 2013 11:16pm
No need for coins in my city. The powers that be saw fit to sell our parking to a private firm. Credit cards only.
29 Oct 2013 12:49am
@Julie L. Brown: Yes, that happens here - "out-sourced". The local forums are filled with endless complaints about how it all gets run . . (Ronnie)
Love that hand FULL of coins jutting into the frame. The so ugly box and the crudely stenciled "NO CASH" display a total lack of design esthetics and make a fine subject to ridicule.
29 Oct 2013 1:19am
@Harry: Yes, all so brash . . .
Very interesting image! Everyone must get confused about this sign.
29 Oct 2013 1:51am
@ARIKA: Takes a lotta reading in any language - especially standing in the rain ! (Ronnie)
Here in little old Olympia, we had classic mechanical parking meters that were replaced in favor of pay stations that issued sticky permits that had to be applied just so or you would get a ticket anyway. Those have disappeared and been replaced with solar powered matters that take money and credit cards. We'll see how long those last. I love Lilly's observation about foreign coins. Makes me laugh. :-)
29 Oct 2013 2:27am
@Steve Rice: A whole industry seems to have been created out of parking a car, Steve. And, yes, all those coins in my hand are 'foreign' from the loose change I've collected on my travels or been given as change locally. (Ronnie)
alors comme ca, tu blanchi de l'argent ........................
29 Oct 2013 6:22am
Well done, whether you have a parking lot of money, at least a couple of times to use!:-)9Haleja.
Happy ST day for both of you,my good friend!

29 Oct 2013 1:15pm
Frustrating to have money and not being able to use it! Strange paradox, isn't it?
29 Oct 2013 3:40pm
@Denise: Well, they always said it could not buy happiness . . .
Sadly, that ugly red box pretty well sums up my life situation.
29 Oct 2013 3:57pm
@B. Thomas: ha ha . . yes, you are not alone, Barbara. (Ronnie)
They should ban these parking meters .............. free parking everywhere!!
29 Oct 2013 6:26pm
In Costa Rica we have to buy a ticket, write it down the day and time you park and place it on the windshield (inside better, LOL!)… it's like hurting yourself. ✎ ✓✓✓✓✓

i love the "foreign" coins, too ... ;-)
as berthold brecht cleverly observed a while ago, "all people are foreigners, almost everywhere on earth!"
we never had coin-operated meters here. instead, you buy a ticket and put it on the dashboard, or you pay with your mobile ...
29 Oct 2013 9:00pm
@franz: Yes, we are headed to the 'cashless' payments here. (Ronnie)

No problem for me Ronnie : i take all the cash ! Come on home ! ;)
30 Oct 2013 3:49pm
Like "El pare" says...if don't cash, no problema.... no pay!!!
Hahahahaha
30 Oct 2013 6:55pm
@Lalena: ha ha . . sounds like a plan worth trying ! (Ronnie)
Fantastic photos ... I believe that our parking meters are just scams; no matter how much change you drop in the meter; it always reads EXPIRED! Love this!
31 Oct 2013 12:16am
@RBL: Yes, folks got more worked up about car parking than almost anything else these days around my way ! Strange world. (Ronnie)
Quelle main et iamge avec ces sous et ce contraste de machines sueprbe.

What make me crazy sometimes. If you have card it needs coins and if you have coins it needs card, and sometimes you have coins but not the good one for the machine !
