Lilly : Do you think these plastic owls really do deter birds ?
Ronnie : Well, here, the crows have toppled one before we had time to find out.
Lilly : I guess that answers the question.

19 May 2014 9:39am
@Stephen: ha ha . . yes !!

If that was the intention :-)
19 May 2014 10:38am

19 May 2014 11:06am
@grouser: I can see the need to buy a leather gauntlet . . cost is mounting. (Ronnie)
It should take birds fools: they know the difference between living and plastic!

@my-ky: The company that makes therm is, perhaps, owned by crows. (Ronnie)
I don't like crows in my town. We need stronger owls. Don't be toppled !
19 May 2014 1:01pm
@Hiro: I'm all for strong owls ! (Ronnie)
Here is an actual review I found when I considered an owl decoy:
This owl is the best, Since I put this Owl on my roof my birdbrained neighbor hasn't come over once to borrow tools and my garbage men always leave my trash cans upright with the lids on them. I would recommend this owl to everyone.
19 May 2014 1:38pm
@B. Thomas: hahaha . . oh, I like that !! ( from Lilly )

19 May 2014 3:30pm
Maybe instead of owls, try using vultures. They look mean and nasty and have some really bad habits!
19 May 2014 3:38pm
@Elaine Hancock: Vultures ?! . . oh, my . . just imagine what the Palace might say . . (Ronnie)
Nice one. Creative.
19 May 2014 4:21pm
Quelle vue sueprbe ces chouettes génial.
19 May 2014 4:40pm
I have never seen these plastic owls used on roof tops before. They are usually closer to the actual plants that want protecting from the birds. Unfortunately then the dogs think they are their personal toys and run off with them. As to actually being helpful, i think you must look elsewhere for something effective.
19 May 2014 5:11pm
You can glue the surface of the owl. Let's see how much fun these crows have.
19 May 2014 6:05pm
Very funny and very true. Crows are way too smart to fall for these plastic owls.
19 May 2014 6:48pm
@Steve Rice: Indeed - they do say crows are the most intelligent of all birds. (Ronnie)
very nice idea
19 May 2014 7:01pm

19 May 2014 8:07pm
funny conversation about the wise owl and the clever crow! :-))
19 May 2014 10:09pm
funny...I've always wondered the same thing :) I've also wondered why owls are becoming more and more common in fashion....hmmm...!
20 May 2014 12:13am
Crows are very smart. They know what's what.
20 May 2014 1:17am
@Michael Rawluk: Yes, takes a lot to fool a crow. (Ronnie)
And here I thought the big one probably had a bit too much owl juice to drink!
20 May 2014 2:22am
As I know the owls only good for a few days either the owls getting lazy or the crows getting smarter.
20 May 2014 4:36am
@Diana: . . maybe if the owls screeched now and then . . but I guess the neighbors would complain. (Ronnie)
Crows are very smart, great ronnie
20 May 2014 6:40am
20 May 2014 6:45am
Clearly not the menacing impact that was intended. Those pesky crows are wise to plastic.
20 May 2014 7:22am
@Ainsley: Yes, they are an ejukated lot those crows . . (Ronnie)
You Can Try a few true owls...
20 May 2014 7:44am
Très chouette cette image.
20 May 2014 7:48am
Tweety Bird, you know the one he could keep those bad old crows away. he could repeat his line; "I think I saw a puddy kat a creeping up on me" over and over, all the crows would soon leave and maybe some of you neighbors as well.
20 May 2014 8:48am
The trap does not seem to be very effective :) Superb composition!!!
20 May 2014 9:45am
@Tede: True . . the crows have twigged it !
Crows are not afraid to investigate. They must have mobbed it.
20 May 2014 10:45am
Not sure it's effective but in any case it's a nice roof decoration. Great find. :-)
20 May 2014 7:00pm
:)) Nothing can frighten crows, even my cats have do not venture there any more !
20 May 2014 8:14pm

21 May 2014 7:57am
I agree with Lilly, the plastic owl is not enough...
21 May 2014 9:05am
I hope that owl doesn't fall off the roof and hit someone on the head.
21 May 2014 10:27am
Fun composition.I had one in my balcony, but did not work. Have a nice day !
21 May 2014 10:29am
@Rafael: Yes, people near me have tried them on their balconies to deter pigeons - did not work here, either ! (Ronnie)
Ohhh! no longer respect anything !!! or...the crows are smart: day time, still owl, no danger !!

21 May 2014 9:22pm
@luis: Tengo la sensación de cuervos estará aquí mucho después de que todos nosotros se han ido ! (Ronnie)
Very funny ... forget the crows and watch out for the wood peckers! Great pair of photos :)
21 May 2014 11:58pm
@RBL: Woodpeckers are not Arlo's favorite, either ! (Ronnie)
Perhaps the crows were actually going for the corn that was stored in the pot (or chimney?) behind the owls and the owls were just in the way... Turn the chimney (or pot) into a jack-in-the-...Then, each time the crows get close, release the jack...that ought do the trick!
22 May 2014 12:19am
@Denny Jump Photo: Angry crows are not what I need, Denny - they were mobbing my local cat yesterday ! (Ronnie)
Some people make a good living out of this - I used essential oils plus ultrasound systems plus traps against one (one !) mouse but I got rid of it only when a friend's dog caught it (not even my dog, by the way !).
I had never heard of or seen these plastic owls before, very funny :) I was about to ask "what for?" but read some comments and your answer to Denny - I understand much better...
23 May 2014 12:05pm
Oh .... owl is my favorite animal and I'm sure it never deter no one also crows ! Specially crows .
24 May 2014 6:45pm
Thanks for making me laugh. :-)
26 May 2014 10:34am
Lol - we have decoys posted on buildings at our Oxford plant primarily to stop pigeons and gulls from pooping on the newly built Mini's - sadly they don't seem to be effective so most cars have to be body wrapped to protect the paintwork
27 May 2014 12:16pm
@Jules: Yeah, I was pretty sure they did not work . . occasional gunfire might do, though ! (Ronnie)
