Ronnie : Oh, no thankyou . . I'd miss Homer calling in Ancient Greek.

@jpla: Oui, beaucoup de choses se sont passées depuis 1976. / Yes, a lot has happened since 1976. (R)
Yes, the phone development has gone very fast
3 Sep 2018 6:27am
@Marjolein: Indeed . . transformed our way of life . . for good or bad. (R)
Another good start to the week!!! And on top of the chuckle is the information. Had to look it up but can hardly believe that cell phones actually came into use before the Concorde! I would definitely have said it was the other way round! And showing my age here - think I have owned three of the phones shown!
3 Sep 2018 6:47am
@dobbino: Yes, Time rushes by . .
Du temps où les téléphones étaient juste pour téléphoner ... Pour ma part j'adorerais qu'il lavent la vaisselle .... Annierita
I think you seems to speak a very good french, that's why I wrote in my own language.
3 Sep 2018 7:14am

La technique avance à grands pas, mais comment faisions-nous avant?;-)
3 Sep 2018 7:36am
@mo.langel: Oui, bonne question.
3 Sep 2018 8:04am
Before, to get news of his family, his knowledge, we moved. Then the phone arrived but if the person called was not there was called (no answering machine).
Now, if we do not answer in the second or if we do not answer because the phone is simply left at home (because we have something other than being constantly behind the screen), people do not understand or get angry.
The phone has destroyed real human relationships.
3 Sep 2018 8:36am
@yoshimiparis: Yes, attitudes have sure changed . . and the change speeds up ! (R)
a very smart selection of phones, perfect for what phones are designed for....making calls :)
3 Sep 2018 9:19am
@grouser: Yes, good thought !
3 Sep 2018 9:29am
Not all upgrades are good. :)
3 Sep 2018 10:37am
Lily is very kind and generous, but my friendly advice to you Ronnie is to keep your news as is. Kinder times.
3 Sep 2018 10:38am
Nowadays you can better buy a new one than upgrade, it nowadays so fast with the development of phones.
The Concorde was a really cool plane.
3 Sep 2018 10:53am
@Willem: Ah, to my sorrow, I turned down two chances to fly Concorde because I was 'too busy' . . (Ronnie)
Ronnie, I am afraid to ask why you still have a newspaper from January of 1976? It seems more than just your phones need updating. SHall I find an Apple store nearby for you, or do you still have the yellow pages to help direct you? I am sure those are extremely yellow by now. DO you understand the terms wifi, internet and selfie?
3 Sep 2018 12:02pm
That is a great collection of phones. You could open a retrospective exhibit. The TIMES have surely changed!
3 Sep 2018 1:02pm
@Elaine Hancock: . . and the pace of change speeds up, I feel . .
A cute storyline here! This reminds me of the conversation I had with my mother last week who wanted to upgrade to a smartphone. Hard to tell your 80-year-old mother that it will bring more anguish than happiness, especially with the learning curve.
3 Sep 2018 1:57pm
@Steven: Yes, we are living thru fast-changing times for sure . . (Ronnie)
The upgrades come too fast! I had just learned to use my bag phone when along came the flip phone, and now I have to learn all about my iPhone.
3 Sep 2018 3:07pm
Plusieurs générations de natel quel ensemble et vue génail.
3 Sep 2018 4:14pm
I had a few Nokias and a few Motorolas back in the day not that long ago. Now, I have a few iPhones which, in spite of the spam and scam calls, are far better than what came before. As you say though, the pace of change can be a bit much. I guess I see smartphones as lifestyle machines that can record your diet and exercise, take and edit photos, map your route, etc. rather than as communication devices.
3 Sep 2018 4:57pm
@Steve Rice: Yes, right in all you say there . . and the pace of change has been kinda scary. (Ronnie)
idd 1976 :) missing the big phillips fizz hahahah :)
3 Sep 2018 5:30pm

3 Sep 2018 8:25pm

3 Sep 2018 10:30pm
Indeed few things like mobiles have really changed in years, not decades.
4 Sep 2018 12:08am
@Chetan: Yes. amazing pace of change . .
I've still got one with a round dial you put your finger in and spin. I don't know whether there is a network in the world that will still react to those little clicks. And I have to leave it home when I travel.
4 Sep 2018 2:31am
@Harry: Sounds like you have a valuable collectors' item, Harry . . make sure it is insured ! (Ronnie)
You keep those ones ? I like Condordes !
4 Sep 2018 3:46am
@Hiro: Yes, I keep those old phones in a drawer . . When it comes to Concorde, I carry the distinction of having declined two opportunities to fly on that beauty . . still remember the wonderful sound as she came in and out of nearby Heathrow and rattled my windows. Happy days. (Ronnie)
Haaa oui l'évolution a été rapide.... cela a l'air de dinosaure !!!! Et pourtant pas tellement loin !!! Merci pour cet article!
4 Sep 2018 7:57am
